There’s a new dispensary in Jersey City that’s on everyone’s lips.

For his first-ever dispensary venture, rapper, producer, and actor Ice–T has partnered with long time friend and cannabis expert Charis B to open a second Medicine Woman location in New Jersey, Jersey City.

According to Benzinga, the dispensary is called “The Medicine Woman” but could have been called “Ice-THC,” one writer pointed out.

That said, Medicine Woman’s name holds great significance. Back in 2020, Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop was encouraging businesses to partner with local female-owned and run charities and businesses.

Medicine Woman’s head of operations, John Batchelor, spoke with Fulop and Council President Joyce Watterman that same year about the importance of supporting minority and female-owned businesses.

Thus, Medicine Woman is proudly partnering with the Redemption House charity, offering support to women who have undergone abuse. Similarly, the dispensary also plans to support the Jersey City Mural Arts Program.

“I was born in Newark, NJ, raised in Summit, NJ. So, it’s kinda cool to bring something back to Jersey,” Ice–T explained.

He added that “Helping the community is Ice–T: I’m Black, I’m a veteran, my whole career has been about helping people.”

Thus, when developing Medicine Woman, the rapper focussed on the impact first, before the profits. “Nobody starts a business thinking about social impact. But it’s lucrative enough…that you should want to help the community,” he concluded.

CCB member Stacey Flanagan pointed out how Ice–T and Charis B’s new dispensary allows Jersey City locals more options “to have access to safe cannabis.”

In terms of staffing, Medicine Woman’s co-owner, Charis B, explained that managers from California would soon relocate to Jersey City to train the new staff.

There is currently no word on when The Medicine Woman will open in New Jersey. Its website reads, “coming soon,” and it will set up shop at 660 Tonnelle Avenue.
