Nina Dobrev Promotes Cann’s Beverages Despite Having Her Own Wine Company

The Vampire Diaries actress says Cann's beverages are just as good as any other alcoholic drink.

You might know her as Elena Gilbert from Vampire Diaries, but actor, influencer, and now cannabis beverage enthusiast Nina Dobrev is investing in THC drinks.

Her latest investment was with the low-THC and CBD beverage company Cann, promoting its drinks as a safe and fun alternative to alcohol. Cann recently announced that it raised a whopping $27 million in Series A funding, which would help the company move operations into the recreationally legalized country, Canada

In a new interview with Fortune, Dobrev, holding over 25 million followers on Instagram, told the outlet about her first experiences with cannabis beverages and how a friend introduced her to Cann’s low-dose non-alcoholic drinks.

The star says she was a bit wary about trying the beverage since she was never a huge fan of weed. But, to her surprise, the low doses in Cann’s drinks were just what she needed to kick back without feeling intoxicated. Dobrev added that she appreciates the drink’s similarities to a cocktail, as well as the subtle euphoric effects.

Dobrev told Fortune that while Cann’s beverages are great for those who wish to stay alcohol-free, she’s still a wine-lover and says both drinks “enhance the social experience and give an uplifting social buzz.” She’s gone so far as turning her friends onto Cann’s beverages and promoting the drinks’ uplifting effects.

Back in 2019, Dobrev began businesses ventures with beverages through her company Fresh Vine, which offers low calorie, low carb, and gluten-free wine. Fortune asked her if promoting Cann’s beverages might hinder the performance of Fresh Vine, wondering if Cann might be a competitor.

Dobrev responded and explained how there’s no competition “at all,” in fact, she thinks “they complement each other very well.” And that makes perfect sense, considering one beverage is alcohol-free and cannabis-infused, and the other is a wine. She also believes those who frequently drink alcohol could appreciate Cann’s subtle and relaxing effects just as much.
