The Americana singer-songwriter is back at it again.
On September 7th, Lana Del Rey took to Instagram (before deactivating her account a few weeks later) to announce her forthcoming eighth studio album, ‘Blue Banisters,’ which will be hitting digital streaming platforms on Friday, October 22nd.
While waiting for the 15-track record, Lana left us quite some time to analyze the meaning behind the lead single and title track, “Blue Banisters.”
She’s never needed captivating or jam-packed instrumentals to enhance her message, especially in this single, as she’s only accompanied by a smooth and delicate piano melody alongside heavenly background pads.

Diving into her lyrical content, Del Rey expands on wanting to build a future with someone who’s swooned her while inviting him to help paint her banisters blue. She later touches on the empty hole in her heart that her friends are trying to heal, which was made by men who took advantage of her in the past.
Interestingly, the following hooks touch on her friends and family helping Lana paint her banisters green and grey, leaving the blue (and the past) behind. We get the feeling that banisters are a metaphor for bruises; at first, they are dark blue and purple, but with time and care, they turn green and grey before they disappear for good.

We’re incredibly excited to see the overall tone and concept that Lana Del Rey has placed into her forthcoming album, ‘Blue Banisters;” if it’s anything like her previous records, we know we’re in for a treat.
