These shredders are all made of aluminum and have a regular shape that is round and with a flat top and bottom.

The teeth on the two-piece shredders are radius at the base for strength and can take extreme use. They will never dull and never release burrs or flakes of aluminum.

Unlike many other grinders I have used, Santa Cruz Shredders’ teeth are designed to cut both ways, including clearances on both sides of the teeth, ensuring a thorough cut and no big chunks left without trimming.

They give the device an acid bath and then suspend it in special tanks that pass an electrical current through the shredder, creating a firm protective surface. Anodizing changes the microscopic texture of the character and changes the crystal structure of the aluminum near the surface. It not only bonds to the surface but becomes the new surface. 

So, if the grinder you are using gets scratched often, it probably hasn’t undergone this treatment, meaning that it is just raw aluminum – which is not only highly susceptible to scratches and thread falling but also seriously unsanitary.
