The Best Adult Cartoons For When You’re High

It’s up to you to decide what you go with, but you’ll find a bit of everything to choose from. From silly sketches originally made for kids to anime made specifically for adults.

Everybody who thinks stoners love to sit on the couch and watch cartoons… is right. But that doesn’t mean that we’re lazy, or that cartoons have to be silly things made for kids without much substance to them.

Cartoons are far more than that. They can also be meaningful works of art that teach us lessons and keep us entertained for hours, even if we’re not 5 years old anymore.

On the other hand:

That doesn’t mean that they can’t be funny either. That’s why we’ve put together a comprehensive list of the best cartoons to watch while you’re high. Some will make you laugh, some will make you think, and a few will make you grow.

It’s up to you to decide what you go with, but you’ll find a bit of everything to choose from. From silly sketches originally made for kids to anime made specifically for adults.

SpongeBob SquarePants

What can we say about SpongeBob SquarePants that you don’t already know?

If you’re a kid of the 90s, chances are that you grew up watching SpongeBob. Chances are that you also didn’t catch the sarcastic humor behind the plot of almost every episode in SpongeBob. From the way Mr. Krabs treats his employees and puts money above everything else in his life, to how incredibly depressed the failed clarinet musician Squidward Tentacles is with life, SpongeBob is a fountain of sarcastic comedy that will keep you highly entertained.

If you haven’t given SpongeBob SquarePants a try as an adult, I absolutely encourage you to do it. If you happen to be a kid of the 90s, I assure you that you’ll catch a bunch of jokes that you did not catch before. Not to mention, you might even learn a few things about life and the silly things we tend to think of as important when they really aren’t.

Rick & Morty

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, chances are you’ve heard of Rick & Morty before. The crazy and incredibly creative adventures of a drunken genius grandfather and his dimwitted, sweet, and unbelievably unlucky cluts of a grandson.

Rick & Morty is one of the funniest cartoons in the world right now, which is the main reason why it has so many followers. The satirical and edgy humor you’ll find in Rick & Morty, combined with the cartoon’s colorful and edgy sketches have the potential to keep any stoner entertained for hours.

The Midnight Gospel

The Midnight Gospel is more than just a cartoon. If we cut down to basics, it’s more of a podcast than it is a cartoon really.

This animated podcast is created by comedian Duncan Trussell. Whom you might know from several of his appearances on the JRE Podcast.

The Midnight Gospel tells the story of a humanoid space podcaster called Clancy who travels to trippy worlds inside his second-hand universe simulator to have conversations with interesting beings he would otherwise not meet. Clancy then records these conversations and uploads them to the cartoon’s version of the internet with the intention of making some money.

Most of the conversations are very interesting, but some will have you thinking otherwise. Not to mention, I personally tend to get a little bit lost in the conversation if I’m trying to follow the animation simultaneously while I’m high. What I can say, is that the colorful and trippy sketches are never boring.

Attack On Titan

If you’re an anime fan, then you’ve probably heard of AOT.

Attack On Titan is one of the best anime series there is out there right now. If you know nothing about anime, the place to start is that they normally don’t go past 75 or 100 episodes. AOT is already at 75 and has recently announced their fourth season, which should be the last.

But while you wait for the fourth season, the first 75 episodes should keep you entertained. There’s a reason why some people have taken to call the series ‘Attack On Cliffhangers’.

AOT is a story set in an apocalyptic world where humanity is attacked by not-very-smart giants that are kept at bay by a gigantic wall. Very quickly (in the first episode), action happens that will flip the world as humanity knows it upside down. I can’t really tell you much more about it without throwing out spoilers, but make sure you watch at least the first episode, trust me.

Family Guy

Family Guy is another American cartoon series that you’re probably familiar with. One of my favorites to watch either sober or high. Easy to keep up with, and no need to watch it in order if all you want is a few laughs.

Family Guy’s creator is the acclaimed American writer, comedian, and actor, Seth McFarlane. If you know anything about Seth, then you know that his comedy is edgy and probably not suitable for the times we live in today, where everything seems to be ‘too much’.

I like to watch Family Guy because, one, it makes me laugh, but most importantly, it reminds me of a time where comedy was not an insult and it was taken for all it is… comedy.
