How To Infuse A Joint At Home The Right Way

Here’s a quick guide to spice up your favorite pre rolls into delicious and super potent joints.

Nothing feels better than a quick joint after a day of hard work. Or just some puffs to lift your mood mid-day can change the whole vibe of the day.

One of the great things about the cannabis space right now is that you can get pre-rolled joints at your convenience. You can choose whatever size, strain, or even paper and enjoy the old ritual without worrying about your spliffgami skills.

However, one of the newest trends for joints and blunts is infusing them with distillate. This makes the joints hit stronger, as THC distillate is much more potent than dried herb, depending on the quality.

If you love pre-rolls and want to know how to jumpstart your new infusing ritual, we’ve prepared a quick guide to help you create infused pre-rolls without rolling your joints. So if you feel curious about this new trend, you can keep reading about it below.

What Is An Infused Joint

An infused joint is a regular cannabis joint taken to the next level with the addition of concentrates. It combines ground cannabis flower with extra ingredients like hash, kief, wax, or cannabis oil to increase potency and enhance the overall smoking experience.

These joints burn slower, hit harder, and produce thicker, denser smoke than standard ones. At dispensaries, you’ll find them labeled as infused pre-rolls or marked with added concentrates like wax, oil, or kief.

Some go even further with double or triple infusions, packing multiple types of concentrates into one joint for a seriously strong high.

And the best part? You can easily make your own at home and skip paying extra at the shop.

Things To Consider Before Tackling The Infused Joint

Before you learn how to infuse your pre-rolls, there are a few things you need to know.

First, how big are your joints? We recommend the standard 1g size of pre roll before putting some of your favorite distillate on top of it, as it can be hard for smaller joints to hold their shape with oil on top.

We also recommend getting distillate in syringe form, as it’s easier to apply and use than shatter or wax. If you wish to use Kief or shatter as well, we do recommend rolling your joints and adding them inside.

And last but not least, sometimes less is more. Don’t lay too much distillate on top of your joint, as the unburned parts of your joint will go to waste. Start in little quantities until you get the hang of how much you need per your preferred joint.

Now that you’ve read these recommendations, let’s go deep into how to make your own infused pre rolls.

Infusing your pre-rolls might seem intimidating at first, but it’s easier than you think. You can keep it simple or get creative and a bit more complicated—it’s all up to you.

Here’s a step-by-step breakdown to help you get started:

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

You’ll need:

  • Your favorite pre-roll or freshly rolled joint
  • A concentrate of choice (distillate, wax, crumble, or rosin)
  • A syringe (for liquid concentrates like distillate or oil)
  • A lighter (to slightly warm thicker concentrates)
  • A small brush or dab tool (optional for spreading concentrate evenly)
  • Kief (optional, for an extra kick)

Step 2: Choose Your Concentrate

Decide how potent you want your joint to be. Liquid concentrates, like distillate or cannabis oil, are easier to work with for first-timers, while crumble or wax can add more texture. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can combine multiple concentrates.

Step 3: Warm the Concentrate (If Needed)

If you’re using a thick concentrate like wax or rosin, gently warm it to make it more workable. You can hold it near a lighter flame for a second or leave it in a warm spot. This will make it easier to apply evenly without clumping.

Step 4: Apply the Concentrate

  • For Pre-Rolled Joints: If you’re using a pre-rolled joint, apply the concentrate on the outside of the joint. Use a syringe to draw a thin line or spiral of oil along the top half to avoid waste.
  • If Rolling Your Own Joint: You can add wax, crumble, or oil inside the joint while packing it. Sprinkle crumble evenly over the flower, or drizzle oil before sealing. This ensures the concentrate is evenly distributed and won’t drip during smoking.

Step 5: Optional – Roll in Kief

For an extra potent and flavorful hit, roll your finished pre-roll in kief once the concentrate is applied. You’ll need to apply a bit of concentrate on the outside of your joint to get the kief to stick. Alternatively, you can lightly brush honey on the outside of your joint, too.

The kief will stick to the concentrate, adding another layer of intensity and enhancing the burn.

Step 6: Let It Set

Give your infused joint a few minutes to set. This helps the concentrate adhere to the joint and ensures a smoother burn.

Step 7: Enjoy Your Infused Pre-Roll

Light it up and enjoy! Take slow, even hits to avoid overheating the concentrate. An infused joint burns more slowly than a regular one, so expect your session time to be a tad longer than usual.
