Netflix + Chill + Weed = the perfect Saturday night. We’ve put together 9 top-rated strains to help put you in the mood if you’ve got a low-key Netflix & Chill plan for tonight. You could purchase weed “products,” but what if you just want to smoke or cook in your kitchen? Maybe you want to make a chocolate cannabis cake for your sweetie or have a romantic marijuana dinner for two… or three? For this “hot” topic I visited 4 retail 21+ dispensaries to see what kind of “flower” they suggest.
1. La Blanca
At the Green Room in Boulder, Colorado I met a budtender named Chelsey. She suggested La Blanca and Jack Flash describing both strains as “upbeat, relaxing and social.” An Indica strain; its genetics include White Widow and Snow White. I noticed a strong fruity aroma. Chelsey described the smell as Fruity Pebbles. She said, “It’s really relaxing … good for cramps and as an aphrodisiac.”
2. Jack Flash
Jack Flash is a 60/40 dominant sativa hybrid with 24% THC. I caught a whiff of this stuff and it was like a pine forest. Jack Flash is derived from Skunk #1 and Jack Herer. “It’s very motivating,” she explained and mentioned how customers rave about this one when it comes to … ahem … activity.
3. Green Crack
Karing Kind is the first fully licensed recreational marijuana dispensary in Boulder, Colorado. It’s been written about in the New York Times and is open until 10 pm, which is unheard of in this town. I met Adam and Danielle behind the counter who gave me the low down or down low.
Green Crack, just the name itself intimidates me, but Danielle said if you clean houses all day then this one’s for you (Hint. Think stamina). Adam described it as an “uplifting, racy, cerebral sativa.” Skunk #1 makes up the genetics.
4. Glass Slipper
Medicine Man is a grow, medical and retail op in Denver. They give tours of the facility by driving visiting MJ tourists to the place in a luxury limo bus provided by Colorado Cannabis Tours.
A budtender named Dillion told me to take a look at Glass Slipper which is Cinderella 99 crossed with Pineapple. He described it is a “happy, euphoric high.” He then mentioned products by Foria, which apparently gives KY a run for its money.
I visited Ajoya a Med + Rec dispensary in Louisville, Colorado. The interior reminded me of the Korova Milk Bar from the film “A Clockwork Orange.” I met two nice, knowledgeable staff members named Greg and Nicole. When I inquired about “Netflix and chill” they suggested categories. Jars of weed are classified with four color-coded labels; unwind, elevate, settle and focus. “Unwind strains reduce tension and help promote relaxation” and for that Ajoya had Under Dog and SFW OG. “Focus strains offer a sense of concentration and encourage creativity” and on this day they had Flo, UK Cheese, and Juicy Fruit.
Nicole described Underdog as functional, buzzy, and euphoric. Greg says the smell kind of “punches you in the face” with its skunky, pungent aroma.
6. SFV OG
Nicole mentioned it’s like any nice OG Kush and promotes a pleasant head high and body buzz without making you anxious. Greg said it has an earthy, fresh aroma.
A Cannabis Cup winner in 1996, it has genetics of Purple Thai and Afghani. Think energy and clarity.
8. UK Cheese
A hybrid known to smell like “cheese.” With genetics of Skunk #1 it’s described as energetic and euphoric.
9. Juicy Fruit
A hybrid with Afghani and Thai. It has a tangy sweet smell like fruit punch. It’s also been described as smelling like lemons, piña colada, and plums.
