Lyft is offering $4.20 off rides on 4/20
Get high, get home safe and save money this 420.
Driving under the influence continues to be one of the most contentious issues surrounding pot legalization. There does not currently exist any tests that would accurately suss out the stoned. Because THC is stored in fat cells and not the blood, any roadside sample would test positive regardless of smoking up an hour prior or two days prior. Opponents to weed have used the lack of a dependable test to push back the clock. This week is the first 4/20 since California has legalized it, and the last before Canada does the same. Lyft, the rideshare app, wants to make sure that no one’s driving high with an apt discount to stoners.
“This April 20, Lyft is launching a unique PSA campaign in areas where marijuana consumption is legal,” reads a statement from the company. “Lyft wants to be a safe, reliable, and affordable 420 partner in order to raise awareness about the consequences of driving under the influence of marijuana.”
And what is this discount? Take a guess.
If you live in a city where both the service is available and cannabis is legal to purchase, such as Denver, Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, you can enter LYFTTROOPERS as a promotional code on the app to get $4.20 off your next ride. Be it from the dispensary to the park or from your house to the nearest Jollibee.
Or you could take a ride to the movie theater, which is probably what Lyft is hoping you’ll do. The discount is part of a cross-promotion between Lyft and the new movie Super Troopers 2, the long-awaited sequel to the 2001 comedy, where the gang of law enforcement morons discover their stretch of turf has become part of Canada. It also comes out on 4/20.
