Can You Believe Trump’s Latest Outrageous Twitter Comment?
In his latest clanger, Trump wants to allow police officers to stop whomever they please because they seem to look suspicious.
In case you hadn’t heard, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump wants to institute a nationwide Stop-and-Frisk police to help control violence among communities. While this idea in and of itself is ridiculous and unconstitutional, it’s where and why he plans to allow such a terrible plan to be put into place that is the real jaw-dropper. Not only would this create massive backlash, it opens the door to allow racial profiling by law enforcement on a huge scale.
Why Stop-and-Frisk is wrong
When asked how he planned to control violence in predominantly black communities around the country, Donald Trump proposed a Stop-and-Frisk law.
This ridiculous excuse for a law would allow police officers to stop and search any individual on the street that they believe could be a criminal.
In a country that already shows systematic racism to the African American population, this law has disaster written all over it.
New York City’s Mayor Michael Bloomberg has already tried to enact a similar law that was quickly deemed unconstitutional by in 2013, due to the overwhelming discrimination it allows. Many city officials believed the law was working and helping to stop criminal activity in the city.
Judge Shira A. Scheindlin, who ultimately deemed abolished the law, believed otherwise.
Blacks and Hispanics who would not have been stopped if they were white.
Unwilling to listen to facts
Despite the law already being shot down by many in New York City, Trump believes it had overwhelming success at proactively eliminating crime. Yeah, because if you just arrest everyone obviously the numbers will reflect a lower crime rate.
While Trump proclaims he wants to help extend the voice of the African American community and have their messages and concerns be heard and acted upon, enacting a law like Stop-and-Frisk would do little to help the community, especially when it is systematically used against them.
Trump has become known for changing his opinions based on the crowd he is speaking to. This is just one more example of the flip-flopping tactic he uses to try and gain votes.
