Ladies and gentlemen, we are celebrating our ten year birthday, and to get the party going, here is a list of 10 Celebrity musical tributes to the best plant on the planet. By no means is this a “Top Ten”, because who could limit themselves to just 10 songs about marijuana. This is, however, a varied genre list meant to include everyone, because no matter what musical background you come from, there is someone in it who loves weed as much as we do, or at least close.

1. Tom Petty: “You don’t know how it feels”

In 1994, Tom Petty released this song with the line “roll another joint”, to let us know what it meant to be him.

2. Cheech & Chong: “Up in smoke”

1978 was a great year for weed, as both Rick James and Cheech & Chong released their hits about the green herb.

3. Rick James: “Mary Jane”

Even better, Ice Cube featured the song Mary Jane in the cult classic: Friday.

4. Sublime: “Smoke two joints”

Sublime reinvigorated the ska and punk scene with reggae sound and this cover of Bob Marley’s Smoke Two Joints.

5. Ray Charles: “Let’s go get stoned”

Ray Charles was open about his love of weed in a time when it was still very much taboo to a musician’s career to be so.

6. Willie Nelson & Merle Haggard: “It’s all going to pot”

Two legends of country came together for this classic stoner anthem. The irony is that while Willie Nelson has been a marijuana lover for a long time, Merle Haggard was actually quite against it for a long time. He did eventually see the light, and more recently, he has gone to it. We will miss you deeply.

7. Toby Keith & Scott Emerik: “I’ll never smoke weed with Willie again”

A tribute to the legendary smoking prowess of one of the world’s most prolific stoners, this song has become a testament to the influence Willie Nelson has had on other artists, celebrities, and culture in general.

8. Snoop Dogg & Dr. Dre: “Next episode”

Snoop Dogg is a legend of weed in his own right and has even smoked with Willie himself. The line “Smoke weed every day” from this song is one a classic, and if you listen to rap and hip-hop, you probably grew up with this on cassette.

9. Fats Waller: “If you’re a viper”

Going way, way back, Fats Waller was one of the earliest recorded musicians to profess his love of marijuana. It was in part due to his music and other prominent black musicians that the “Reefer Madness” campaigns specifically targeted jazz singers.

10. Cypress Hill: “Hits from the bong”

There are few weed songs more instantly recognizable or more synonymous with getting blazed, than Hits From the Bong. If you don’t know this song, then you must have gone without weed during the ’90’s.

There are so many other songs that instantly come to mind, it was hard to narrow it down, but some very famous ones I left off the list because they practically go without needing to say them: Bob Marley, Afroman, Wiz Khalifa, Bone Thugs, Kottonmouth Kings, just to name a few.
