Blunt Wraps

We can’t say that a blunt is just tobacco rolled cannabis anymore. In fact, that outer layer might not be made from tobacco at all anymore. If you’re looking to quit nicotine altogether but still love the touch and feel of a blunt, then you’ll be happy to find options made from hemp, sugarcane, and gold. Yes, GOLD. Read ahead and figure out where you stand in this new era of blunt rolling.

As the cannabis industry develops products evolve and mutate with it. We’ve seen it with new products like extracts and other concentrates that are re-shaping the way we interact with cannabis altogether. But there is one thing that doesn’t seem to change much, and that’s smoking weed.

However:

Don’t let first impressions fool you. Joints, spliffs, and blunts have changed with the industry as well. Specifically, the papers used to wrap and roll them. For instance, blunts used to be known as cannabis simply rolled into a tobacco leaf, much like the common stogie you’d use to celebrate closing an important deal. That’s where the name “Blunt” comes from. It was used to describe a blunt-tipped cigar introduced to the North American market in the 1800s.

But we can’t say that a blunt is just tobacco rolled cannabis anymore. Sure, if you’re a purist you can stick to that label, but the reality is companies are innovating in their wrapping products and redesigning the blueprint of blunts. Today’s blunt wraps are made of two layers of leaves; an inner layer made from rice or wood pulp, and an outer layer which should be a processed tobacco leaf (depending on the brand you’re buying).

The thing is:

That outer layer might not be made from tobacco at all anymore. Which can actually be a good thing! If you’re looking to quit nicotine altogether but still love the touch and feel of a blunt, then you’ll be happy to find options made from hemp, sugarcane, and gold. Yes, GOLD. But if you’re a traditionalist, enjoy the taste of good tobacco smoke, and don’t have a problem with nicotine, then traditional earthy tobacco wraps are still available on every corner. It’s just a question of which brand you want to go with.

Types of Blunt Wraps in a Nutshell

Hemp Wraps – These sons of the leaf are non-tobacco/non-nicotine blunt wraps. This means that if you’re just here for the weed then this might be the best choice for you. Nonetheless, hemp is a type of cannabis with very low levels of THC (less than 0.3% to be exact), so hemp wraps will provide the same non-psychoactive effect. Contrary to what you’re about to roll with them, obviously!

Gold Wraps – Let’s not call this a common one, but it was just impossible not to include it on the list. Gold wraps are made from actual edible gold, in the case of Shine Rolling Papers that would be 24-karats worth of it.

Tobacco – Last one on the list but the first one in history. That was kind of cheesy, but true. Tobacco leaves will give you an earthy and somewhat strong flavor. Although tobacco is not for everyone, if you enjoy the buzz nicotine can give you then it’s definitely worth giving it a try.

The 12 Best Blunt Wraps for Serious Weed Smokers

Dutch Masters

Dutch Masters is a brand that’s been around for a while now. All Dutch Masters wrappers feature premium tobacco blends with traditional flavors like Palma and DeLuxe in their “classic line”, or edgier and unexpected flavors with their sweet, honey and Irish fusions.

Game

Game Cigars by Garcia y Vega are worth mentioning. Featuring Game Leaf flavors that come in 2-stick and 5-stick packs of Cognac and White Russian for the liquor lovers, or more aromatic options like Wild Berry and my personal favorite; White Peach.

High Hemp

High Hemp was the first hemp blunt wrap I’ve ever tried, and not a bad one to start with as they do claim to be the world’s first hemp wrap. I have a bit of a sweet tooth when it comes to cannabis, and contrary to what my smoking habit might say, I also try to live healthily. So, my personal favorite is the Bare Berry Organic wrap from High Hemp’s featured collection. It’s made from 100% vegan materials and completely GMO-free.

Minty’s Wraps

Minty’s blunt wraps claim to be the organic blunt that’s redefining smoking, and honestly, they could be when it comes to innovative products. Minty’s uses an organically grown mint leaf that’s durable, thin, and always burns slow. Like all mint leaves, it’s 100% tobacco-free, and in Minty’s case, additive-free as well.

Backwoods Cigars

Backwoods cigars are another OG in the cigar game. When Backwoods claim they’re “Always True”, they mean it. No Backwoods cigar is the same as the next, which is how you know that the product they’re delivering is real. But this is not a review on cigars, but blunt wraps. Which is the case of Backwoods are equally great and come in two popular ranges; Original and Craft.

Phillies Cigars

Phillies keeps it real, as one would say. They’ve been around for more than 100 years and pride themselves in being the staple for affordable cigars amongst a growing tally of blunt wraps that focus more on “the next big thing”. With this classic, you’ll find a blunt wrap that smokes well at a decent and affordable price range.

Swisher Sweets

Swisher’s portfolio goes from cigars and cigarillos to smokeless tobacco products as well. They’ve been around for 160 years now and are widely known in the cigar community. But we’re here because we love their natural leaf line, which delivers the smooth and consistent burn that has become a thing of distinction with the Swisher Sweets brand.

Juicy Jay’s

Juicy Jay’s is a brand for the cannabis lover, period. They provide an incredibly large range of flavors on papers, cigars, and blunt wraps alike. Juicy wraps are made with a triple-dip flavor system and come in a tightly sealed packaging. This allows Juicy Jay’s to deliver a moist and delicious product every single time.

King Palm

Premium all-natural leaves that are individually handpicked from King Palm’s plantations in Southeast Asia. What more can you ask for? All of King Palm’s products are made with a slow-burning purpose, and for smokers who need a filter like me, their hand-rolled super slow burning pre-rolls come with a corn husk filter that makes for a not-so-harsh pull on your blunt.

Cyclones Sugarcane Tips

All-natural hemp wrapping paper that’s known for using a triple-dip system that adds on a boost in flavor for this weed connoisseur’s favorite. Regardless of which of the four flavors you choose to go with; blueberry, grape, strawberry, or natural, Cyclones has your back.

Zig Zag

Much more than just a blunt wrapper brand, Zig Zag offers a wide variety of options; from organic all-natural rolling papers to 100% hemp, top-of-the-line blunt wrappers. My personal favorite in terms of branding and general outlook, Zig Zag also offers King Size Rolling Papers that allow you to roll a mad joint. Not to mention they’re pre-rolled into easy-to-stuff cones!

Optimo

Manufactured by Swisher International, a cigar brand that barely needs an introduction. Optimo Natural Leaf comes in an almost too vast to list range of flavors, from creamy scents to the fruitier, and natural types. Optimo allows you to choose your style, your spin, and your smoke with exciting blends that combine the old-school feel of natural leaf cigars with the novelty of a modern blunt.
