Ah, the infamous hot knife. While we haven’t seen a classic hot knife session since the 70s, it’s perhaps the easiest way to smoke weed when all you have is bud.

If you have access to a stove and two butterknives, consider yourself lucky because that’s all you need to get lit. The classic hot knife method consists of heating the tips of two knives on a stovetop set to medium-high heat.

Once the knives are red and burning hot, squish a bit of weed, kief, hash, or concentrate between the hot knives and inhale the smoke it produces. Just warning you, the space will be dank, so open some windows or choose to hotbox, whichever suits your fancy.

This is one of my favorite in-a-pinch ways to smoke weed because it’s easy, nostalgic, and gets the job done. It’s basically a DIY pipe made with household items you definitely have.

To make a steamroller, get yourself:

• A small sheet of aluminum foil
• An empty toilet paper or paper towel roll
• A pen or something small and pointy

You can likely see where we’re going with this. Take a sheet of foil and cover one end of the empty toilet paper or paper towel roll. Take your pen or pointy object and puncture the foil a few times to allow airflow.

Next, carefully create a small hole on top of the toilet paper roll near the end that’s covered by foil. Rip off another small piece of foil and place it over and into the hole you made. This will be your bowl piece. Poke it with 3 to 4 small holes for airflow.

There you have it! Load your weed in the small foil area, spark up, and inhale from the open end. It’s that simple.

If you’re a fellow joint roller and still want to enjoy the routine of rolling one up, here’s an idea. Get your hands on any type of sturdy leaf, and try rolling a DIY joint without papers.

Here are some leaves that work especially well:

• Lettuce
• Grape leaves
• Cannabis fan leaves
• Banana leaves
• Corn husks

Corn husks and banana leaves are top tier, thanks to their mild flavors and flexibility without tearing. Break up some bud with scissors, place your bits on your leaf of choice, and roll up. To seal it, add moisture by licking it (as you usually would) or using a damp cloth.

The only catch is you may have to wait for the joint to dry before smoking it. Other than that, it’s an easy (and sustainable) way to smoke weed.
