On April 20th, 2015, Dr. Sanjay Gupta released Weed 3, the Marijuana Revolution, the third instalment of his weed documentary series. Profiling a veteran suffering from PTSD, a patient suffering from sickle cell anemia, and a gentleman suffering from alzheimer’s, Dr. Gupta highlights the stories of individuals whose lives have been changed by medical marijuana—for the better.

The underlying message of this documentary is that the United States of America (as a whole) is against marijuana not because of legitimate reasons, such as scientific fact, but because of ideology. President Obama addresses this concerning fact after being asked about a bill which proposes moving cannabis from a schedule one classified drug to a schedule two classified drug:

“You know, I think I’d have to take a look at the details, but I’m on record as saying that not only do I think carefully prescribed medical use of marijuana may in fact be appropriate and we should follow the science as opposed to ideology on this issue, but I’m also on record as saying that the more we treat some of these issues related to drug abuse from a public health model and not just from an incarceration model, the better off we’re going to be”

Here we see the truth that we all know it, straight from the President’s mouth: ignoring the science behind medical marijuana comes with a cost—including the inability to effectively treat or ease the pain of individuals suffering from debilitating diseases. Not only that, viewing medical marijuana use from a public health model means that there will be fewer citizens locked up in cells and more citizens getting the help that they need. This speech from President Obama alone is enough reason to check out this documentary. So watch it, now.

Oh, and if you need extra encouragement, check out the poem we wrote out of excitement and passion for this documentary and all it contains:

“Twas’ the night of 420 and all through the country,
Not a cannabis lover was eating, not even a munchie.
The TV’s were on CNN owners waiting to see,
What could possibly happen in the show Weed 3!
People were sitting patiently in their chair,
Not knowing for a second that Obama would be there.
They saw the benefits that medical marijuana did perform,
and Barack Obama ended up talking about drug reform!”
