Rapper and cannabis enthusiast Curren$y wasn’t the least bit sheepish showing off his signature strain Andretti OG on Mostly Football last month. Then again, he’s never really been shy about his love for bud.
The New Orleans native appeared alongside the show’s host and former NFL linebacker, Martellus Bennett, along with comedian James Davis, and journalist Ben Lyons to discuss, well, mostly football.
However, the sixth episode of the series saw Curren$y and the gang discussing cars, the artist’s relationship with Wiz Khalifa, Mos Def, and Lil Wayne, and, of course, weed.
Bennett says that Curren$y’s music was the perfect match for driving his first Bentley. Davis then comically chimes in, saying that when he had his first Honda Accord, Curren$y’s collaborative album with Wiz Khalifa was all he listened to as well. It appears that his music has universal appeal, no matter what whip you’re driving.
Lyons then points out that Curren$y’s influence on Wiz Khalifa changed the way the artist smokes up. Curren$y agrees, calling Khalifa his little brother.
After some back and forth between Curren$y and Bennett about how Khalifa turned him onto blunts, Bennett says that he enjoys blunts and joints equally, prompting the rapper to pull out a jar full of his signature strain, Andretti OG.
The strain came to be after a few farmers hit up Curren$y about a partnership. The strain gets its name from Curren$y’s pseudonym, Spitta Andretti.
“I have a few of my own strains. This is my number one,” says Curren$y, before passing the jar of the potent weed around for everyone to take a whiff.
While the rapper is primarily focused on his Playoff Run West Coast tour, he said he does plan to use the trip to stop by dispensaries and promote his signature brand of kush.
Bennett expressed his enthusiasm for Curren$y’s foray into the cannabiz. The former Dallas Cowboy star has been a vocal advocate for cannabis use in the NFL, previously stating that “90% of NFL athletes use cannabis,” despite the NFL’s strict ban on the substance.
