In previous times the art of blowing glass has been overlooked, but as more people tune out old social stigmas and false laws, and tune into a more plant conscious mind to support cannabis as medicine the art has gained much more attention. As the marijuana industry grows the glass blowing industry thrives from it, making the art flourish with outstanding revenues in recent years.

The days of smoking your grass from an apple or a bent aluminium can are done for, and serious glass collectors and cannabis enthusiast are beginning to want their marijuana pipes with distinct style and personality that fit specific tastes.

The art of blowing glass

The glass blower uses a hot mounted torch or a molting chamber in order to heat the glass. A huned sharp flame and hotter heats can be used to cut the glass in to, cut deep grooves in the glass, and other more pronounced effects, while less heat will allow for longer rotations and slower melting of the glass to get exact shapes, bends, and specific details without over doing the glass. The process is one that takes experimentation.  Learning the process and becoming a high dollar glass seller doesn’t just happen over night.

Tools of the trade

Some of the most important tools for starting a glass blowing operation as a beginner include a suitable place to work with lots of space, clean surfaces, tables, and safe places to store your working glass project. This area should be well ventilated as well, as you are working with propane and fire and chances of explosions do exist.

Tools in starting a glass blow include tubes and rods, dark glasses for eye protection, oxygen and propane tanks and torch equipment, shaping tools for desired effects in building custom glass pieces, gas regulators, T hoses and clamps, soft glass or borosilicate (a type of glass with silica and boron trioxide as the main glass-forming constituents. Borosilicate glasses are known for having very low coefficients of thermal expansion (~3 × 10−6 K−1 at 20 °C), making them resistant to thermal shock, more so than any other glass), claw and glass grabbers for touching the hot glass and for putting it aside as it cools.
