Kristen Bell Uses CBD For Anxiety, “Really Believes” In It

The actress thinks we need to start having informed conversations about cannabis.

Kristen Bell’s a responsible cannabis user if we’ve ever seen one. She came under fire last month after admitting on an episode of the “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast that she smokes weed about once a week in front of her long-sober husband Dax Shepard. Criticism followed about her using cannabis as a parent—she has two daughters, three- and five-years-old—and in front of a partner who formerly had substance abuse issues. Bell appeared, soon after, on daytime talk show “The View” to clarify.

No, she doesn’t smoke weed in front of her kids and she stands by her belief that cannabis isn’t dangerous. She said she occasionally hits a vape pen in front of Shepard, but it doesn’t bother him. In fact, Shepard came to Bell’s defense amid the recent criticism, saying he lost his privilege to drink and use other substances, but that doesn’t mean his partner should have to.

“That would be like asking a diabetic spouse, ‘don’t ever eat sugar in front of me,’” Bell said on The View.

On September 1, when Shepard hit 14 years of sobriety, Bell congratulated him on Instagram with a heartfelt message about his commitment to personal growth and to their family.

“I will forever be in awe of your dedication, and the level of fierce moral inventory you perform on yourself, like an emotional surgery, every single night,” Bell wrote.

The actress, most known for her role on TV series “Veronica Mars,” said that if Shepard was in year one of sobriety and needed her to be sober in solidarity that she, of course, would be. That’s just not the case, though, and she doesn’t have the energy for people who criticize situations without taking the time to understand them.

In addition to vaping, Kristen Bell uses CBD oil daily for her anxiety. She said she “really believes” in the healing properties of CBD and encouraged people to be critical about their views on cannabis.

“[Cannabis] scares people and that’s okay that it scares people, but again, come into the conversation with critical thinking and ready to analyze it, don’t come in with like ‘that’s bad!’” Bell said. “No one’s going to have a conversation with you if that’s your point of view.”

Whoopi Goldberg, a host on the show and an entrepreneur with her own line of cannabis products designed for menstrual pain, chimed in: nodding and agreeing as Bell talked about the value of CBD. “It’s a whole conversation,” she said.

Cannabis and CBD are growing in popularity among both women for menstrual pain and parents, more generally, for anxiety and other ailments. A recent survey found that, for the first time in American history, adults, ages 55 to 64, are using more cannabis than teenagers. Bell joins a growing number of celebrity parents who are vocal about their cannabis use.
