What exactly is hemp? More like what isn’t hemp. From body care to the clothes we wear, hemp is the most useful plant known to mankind. Though hemp and marijuana come from the same plant, hemp cannot get you high. In fact, it contains less than 1% THC. Why does U.S. law still prohibit hemp cultivation when it has many valuable properties? That’s the question we should be asking. I think we can all agree that it’s time for America to go green by embracing hemp. Be sure to check out the video below by PRØHBTD for interesting facts about why we should embrace hemp.
Hemp is nature’s answer, it’s time we embrace hemp
Many folks today are “going green” and embracing hemp by choosing to make various lifestyle changes, such as eating organic foods and using less electricity. However, not many people are going as green as they could. Hemp is a green as it gets and not everyone is aware of that. People often confuse hemp as being the same as the psychoactive cannabis, which is totally false.
Hemp is nature’s answer, in a nutshell. Not only is it useful, it’s a more natural alternative for a variety of materials. For example, paper. In fact, the world’s first paper came from hemp. It requires fewer chemicals, less water, and less energy. Hemp also dates back thousands of years and offers an alternative to wood pulp.
Another example, by far the best of them all, is cotton. It takes 10,000 liters of water to produce a kilogram of cotton, crazy right? Well, guess what, hemp requires 80% less water than cotton. Cotton is also a major cause of deforestation, but hemp is not.
So, when will America wake up and realize that prohibition is only harming everyone? It’s about time we really go green and embrace hemp. Though cultivation is still prohibited by U.S. law, hemp is expected to make a comeback.
In January of 2015, the Industrial Hemp Farming Act was introduced and is currently pending approval. If it’s passed, it could end prohibition and the world’s first crop would be available for all to enjoy.
