Medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs) are specific kinds of fat derived from oils like coconut and palm oil. It’s mostly made up of saturated fats, but many think MCT oil is healthy for the heart.
Research shows that MCT oil protects cardiovascular health by improving serum lipid profiles.
It also has no effect on cholesterol and is quickly rising in popularity along with keto diets thanks to new research on the benefits of fats like coconut oil.
MCT oil is found in other common oils like coconut or palm kernel.
Both of these contain MCT oil, and the isolation process of separating MCT from coconut or palm kernel oil is called fractionation.

Although there are currently no defined and specific dosage recommendations, research suggests that 4-7 tablespoons a day are ideal.
Because MCT oil is organic and derives from coconut or palm kernel oil, there have been no reports of adverse interactions with medications or notable poor side effects.

As noted above, there are currently no major side effects to taking regular and recommended dosages of MCT oil.
If taking 1-7 tablespoons a day, your body shouldn’t feel any harmful effects. That said, the only negative side effects stem from exceeding seven tablespoons a day, resulting in an upset stomach, nausea, and diarrhea.
We suggest you start small with 1-2 tablespoons a day to see how your body reacts, then up the dosage with time.
