What Is The Best Dab Temperature?

Want to maximize your dabs? Here's how to find the ideal temperature for your concentrates. Created with Stiiizy.

Dabbing is one of those new methods that cannabis enthusiasts love and is seemingly on everyone’s lips today.

Dabbing cannabis concentrates is as easy as heating your dab rig bowl, placing your concentrate in it, and inhaling the cannabinoid-rich vapor out of it.

Maybe that’s one of the reasons why dabbing is a hot topic nowadays, in more ways than one.

But it is a good thing to know that the heat temperature you apply in your dab will directly impact your smoking experience in terms of flavors, smells, and even effects, as heat have a significant influence on how cannabinoids and terpenes are vaporized and degraded before reaching your lips.

So, if you want to master the art of dabbing, check out the following tips and facts about dab temperature and how it can affect your experience.

A precise answer to this question would be; to get a flavorful, effective, and healthier dabbing experience since too high temperatures can degrade or even burn away the terpenes and cannabinoids on your concentrate before they get to activate.

Overheating the material can also be harmful to your health by generating unwanted carcinogenic compounds in your vapor.

So, it is convenient to pay attention to maintaining an optimal temperature and hot enough that your concentrate can activate its content of cannabinoids and terpenes and melt and vaporize without burning these precious compounds.

The ideal temperature to achieve all this can vary a bit depending on the terpene profile of your concentrate, as each terpene boils at a different temperature.

Nonetheless, with a few exceptions, this temperature does not differ much from the optimum temperature for vaporizing any cannabis concentrate.

As we just mentioned, each terpene has its boiling temperature, and some resist more heat than others. Therefore, the terpene profile of your concentrate will directly influence what is the ideal temperature to vaporize it.

To get an idea of what that optimum temperature is, just take a look at the dominant terpenes in your concentrate and check which one burns at the lowest temperature to take care not to burn it before smoking it, as this could generate harsh flavors in your puff.

The boiling points for some of the most commonly found terpenes in cannabis are:

  • Pinene: 311°F / 155°C
  • Caryophyllene: 320°F / 165°C
  • Myrcene: 334°F / 168°C
  • Limonene: 349°F / 176°C
  • Eucalyptol: 349°F / 176°C
  • Terpinolene: 365°F / 185°C
  • Linalool: 388°F / 198°C
  • Humulene: 388°F / 198°C
  • Phytol: 399°F / 204°C
  • Citronellol: 437°F / 225°C

When using an enail, the ideal temperature can vary depending on several factors, such as the type of concentrate you want to vaporize and even your own personal preferences.

Nevertheless, the average temperature agreed by many regular dab users and cannabis connoisseurs to have a good dab using an enail ranges between 400°F and 800°F. The best temperature will depend more than all on the user’s personal tastes when smoking.

You can in fact, experiment with different temperatures between this range and thus find the temperature that best suits your needs or preferences.

The “sweet spot” for low-temperature dabbing agreed by many users is between 315°F and 420°F. At this point, you will get subtle and relatively soft hits on the throat and lungs.

In turn, the low temperature will make the vapor of your concentrate retain a greater amount of terpenes, giving you hits full of flavor and allowing you to truly enjoy the flavor and odor profile of the concentrate you chose.

Some users report that the effects you experience from a low-temperature dab are likely to be slightly milder than from a high-temperature dab. Although dabbing at a low temperature gives you more control over getting the cannabinoids appropriately activated, most of these vaporize as soon as you go above 300°F.

It is essential to try not to exceed 900°F. When you go above this temperature, the cannabinoids and terpenes tend to burn completely rather than vaporize.

Burning the terpene and cannabinoid content of your concentrate creates a more bitter and harsh taste and probably completely burns the terpene and cannabinoid content of your concentrate before you smoke them.

It is a fact that the ideal temperature for dabbing can vary depending on the type of concentrate you want to vaporize as well as your personal preferences or if you want to keep more terpenes or cannabinoids in your hits.

Particularly for rosin and live resin, the optimal vaporization temperature is between 500°F to 580°F, depending on whether you want a more flavorful, terpene-forward vapor at lower temperatures or thicker but slightly burned puffs at higher temperatures.
