High Times Cannabis Cup Wants Michigan Connoisseurs To Decide This Year’s Winners

Judging kits for this year's High Times Cannabis Cup in Michigan will begin selling at select dispensaries on April 16.

The largest High Times Cannabis Cup in Michigan is ready to take place this June, but the event is calling on you to decide which strains and products reign supreme.

The People’s Choice competition will return to Michigan after a successful event last year, which featured 76 brands, over 300 products, and a total number of 290,596 grams of cannabis products. While some notable judges have walked the grounds in the past, like Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson, High Times Cannabis Cup wants you to decide the winners this year.

Launching on April 16, the cup will begin selling judging kits for judges to take home and give their best opinion on the products inside. This includes categories like best Indica, Sativa, Hybrid, Edibles, Concentrates, and more. The kits will be available at select dispensaries throughout Michigan.

The very first Cannabis Cup took place in 1988 in Amsterdam, reports Upper Michigan Source. This international competition was designed to gather like-minded connoisseurs to judge the best strains in existence.

However, it wasn’t until the pandemic that High Times Cannabis Cup adopted the People’s Choice alley, allowing individuals to participate and judge from their own homes.

Mark Kazinec, High Times Director of Event and Competitions, announced the following statement, “This April, we are launching the largest-ever Cannabis Cup in Michigan’s history, with 17 unique categories across recreational and medical products for a total of over 3,300 judge kits.”

Kazinec added that there are plans to “increase distribution so that every area of Michigan is covered as best as possible…we expect lines of enthusiasts ready to purchase their kits at the select dispensaries, which may very well sell out the same day.”

These kits sell like hotcakes, and they’re on a first-come, first-serve basis, selling for $100-$200 depending on which kit you purchase for which category.

The kits come in smell-proof backpacks with 15-30 sample products and a few scorecards. Each scorecard asks the judge to give their detailed explanation on each product’s aesthetic, aroma, taste, and effect, reports say.

All winners for each strain and product will be announced during the High Times Cannabis Cup Michigan Awards Show, set to take place on June 26, 2022. For more information on the event, check out its website.
